Little Mermaid Nails

I found this little gem while browsing pinterest today:

It inspired my current nails. If you can not tell what I was going for the red was ment to be an outline of Ariel’s hair, the purple the sea shell bra, and finally the green is her mermaid tail.

It looked better in my head but if I hold my fingers just right so that the designs line up perfectly, which to be honest would never happen in real life, someone might be able to tell what it is. It also helps if you wear a little mermaid shirt, give lots of hints then ultimately resort to telling them what it is.

Here is a close up of my thumb which to me is the most interesting looking design. If you want to know how I created this look or what colors I used just send me a comment ūüôā

China Glaze Hey Sailor

Hey Sailor is from the China Glaze Anchors Away Collection released in spring 2011, but is a part of the normal China Glaze collection located at Sally Beauty Supply.

It is a bright red cream that almost has the finish of a jelly polish. It is fairly easy to apply but the formula is thin so watch out for cuticle flooding. Working with two thin coats rather than one thick coat seems to be the better method when applying Hey Sailor, but if you work carefully I think you could get away with just one.

I have worn this several times and there always seems to be horrible tip wear after only one to two days. It never chips or flakes off but I have to keep touching it up. I would also recommend wearing a good base coat to prevent staining.

I WON!!!

A few weeks ago I entered lorrainetyne.com manicure contest and I won ūüôā I never win anything so I was super excited. Above is the manicure I submitted (my tutorial on how to make your own¬†dinosaur nails can be found here). You can check out¬†the wonderful lorrainetyne¬†blog here and see the other winning manicures.

I won¬†this¬†beautiful bracelet. ūüôā Here is¬†a closeup of the bracelet with my current nails. I used an unnamed¬†silver polish from Urban Outfitters and Smoke and Ashes from the China Glaze Capital Colors Collection to create a half-moon manicure.

China Glaze Ahoy

Ahoy is a beautiful¬†berry pink from China Glaze’s Spring 2011¬†Anchors Away Collection. Ahoy combines the glass fleck¬†look with gold micro-glitter. It applies very smoothly for¬†a¬†relatively thin polish. It¬†is very sheer¬†on the first coat, but with the second coat it becomes quite opaque. I could just see¬†a hint of a visible nail line in a few of my photos at two coats even though it looks opaque in person.

I love the way this polish looks and the shimmer is beautiful. It is quick drying and one of my new go to colors for summer.

The base color for Ahoy is very similar to Do You Think I‚Äôm Tex-y? from the OPI¬†Texas Collection (reviewed here). Since Ahoy is available where ever China Glaze is sold, and Do You Think I’m Tex-y was a part of a discontinued collection from OPI, I would highly recommend Ahoy. It is less expensive,¬†glittery,¬†and more opaque. No¬†Ahoy is not a jelly polish, but I hate the visible nail line associated with Do You Think I’m Tex-y so for me it is definitely an improvement.

China Glaze Fast Track with Luxe and Lush

Fast Track (District 6 – Transportation) is from the China Glaze¬†Collection Colours From the Capitol. I originally bought this shade for my neutral loving mom, but loved it so much on her that I went out and bought my own bottle as well as and a backup bottle. Fast Track is the polish representing District 6 – Transportation, but for me this color really doesn’t really remind me of transportation, but I loved it so much I can overlook a little inconsistency within a collection of polishes. I layered one thick coat of Luxe and Lush (representing District 1 ‚Äď Luxury) on my ring finger.

Fast Track is a dusty creme beige base that has a beautiful gold flaked shimmer. It is a work safe color with more than just a hint of the beautiful gold shimmer. The formula of this polish is just fantastic. It is sheer on the first coat and looks nearly opaque in two but still had a bit of visible nail line. I finally built up the polish to three coats, but the polish dries quickly so it wasn’t a problem.

Luxe and Lush is such a versatile top coat, it is so beautiful when worn on an accent nail. You can see the pink/gold and pale blue/green shifts when worn over when worn over Fast Track. Here it really looks like shards of glass.

I‚Äôve Been Tagged :)

I was tagged by Nicole over at Polish Me Please one of my favorite blogs. So here I bring you my answers to the Q&A game. Most people have already taken this particular quiz but if you haven’t join in the fun ūüôā

1.      When did you start your blog?

I finally started at the end of last year. I have had a love of nail polish for several years.

2.      What is your go-to nail look?

I love pink nails, but a French manicure is always a classic go to look for me.

3.      Would you rather: Have your nails cut down to the nail bed for the rest of your life OR never wear makeup again?

Well my nails are super short half the time anyways, so I think I would choose my nails to be cut down to the nail bed.

4.      What is one thing you wish you would have known as a teen than you know now?

Well I am still 19, so this may not be a good question for me to answer… I guess I would say appreciate what you have.

5.      If you could only have 3 nail products/polishes for the rest of your life, what would they be?

I would choose my bottle of OPI’s Teenage Dream, Glitter Gal Silver Halo Glitter, and a nail file I cannot stand chipped/rough nails.

6.      What is one album you could listen to on repeat and never get sick of?

I am not a big music person, but I love the musical Wicked’s soundtrack.

7.      What is one of your pet peeves?

This may not be a ‚Äúpet peeve‚ÄĚ but I really hate chipped nail polish. One chip I can deal with but when it‚Äôs completely ragged it drives me nuts. This is why I change my polish so often.

8.      What would be your perfect day?

I would honestly say a day at Disney World with my boyfriend. It is my favorite place in the world, yet he has never had a chance to go. I would love to share that experience with him.

9.      Do your family and friends know about your blog?

Yes, not that all of them read my blog.

10.  What is the last song you listened to OR the song currently stuck in your head?

Currently I am listening to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri.

11.¬† Share your personal mantra or a good quote. ūüôā

I am a huge fan of Harry Potter, but if I had to pick a single quote it would be: ‚ÄúHappiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.‚ÄĚ

Smoke and Ashes with Luxe and Lush

Smoke & Ashes and Luxe and Lush are from the China Glaze¬†Collection Colours From the Capitol¬† which were inspired by the recently released¬†Hunger Games movie.¬†I¬†saw it last weekend and is amazing ūüôā I also just started the second book, sorry I will get back to the nail polish now. So far I have only picked up three polishes from this collection Smoke and Ashes, Luxe and Lush, and Fast Track. Even though I was¬†extremely excited for this collection¬†when I saw them in person I was reluctant to pick up every color.¬†Smoke and Ashes (representing District 12 ‚Äď Mining) is a not quite black, but very dark¬†blue base that contains green and blue glass ¬†flecks. Luxe and Lush (representing District 1 ‚Äď Luxury) is a top coat with¬†irregularly shaped crystalline¬† mylar flakes that looks like¬†shards of glass.

As far as formula goes for Smoke and Ashes I have few complaints, it is a  thick but smooth polish that is very pigmented and covers the nail beautifully in almost one coat. I applied two coats to even things out, I would recommend a longer drying time between coats because I ran into flooded cuticles and some dragging with my second coat. As far as the glass flecks go they are beautiful in direct sunlight and less visible in the pictures than in person. I am always cautious when it comes to wearing polish that looks like it will stain nails, so I doubled up on the base coat just to be safe.

Luxe and Lush is¬†amazing top coat that has mylar flakes suspended in a clear¬†milky base. It is essentially¬†everything I¬†wanted ¬†China Glaze Snowglobe¬†to be. I tried brushing this on in the traditional way and it¬†just doesn’t work with these kinds of polish. I found that I had to drip or smear the flakes on to the nail and move them around until I had desired coverage. The flakes shift depending on the base color worn, but I can see¬†blue/green and pink/gold shifts when worn over Smoke and Ashes. This was a really hard polish to photograph, but it looks so amazing in person.
